Editorial policy

Seedledge is an independent editorial reference for saving seeds, taking cuttings, storing bulbs and regrowing kitchen scraps. This page explains how every guide is researched, checked and kept up to date.

What we are responsible for

Every page on Seedledge answers one specific, practical growing question. We publish methods, timing and reference data — not product sales, not sponsored recommendations. We are an editorial desk, and we sign our work as Seedledge Editorial rather than inventing named experts or credentials we do not have.

How we research a guide

Guidance is built from established horticultural and seed-saving sources, including the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the organic-growing charity Garden Organic, university and extension services, and specialist seed-saving organisations. Where a number or method comes from a source, we list that source at the foot of the page.

We prefer primary and institutional sources over aggregators. When sources disagree, we say so and explain which figure suits which situation, rather than presenting one number as universal.

How we use research and writing tools

We use research and editing tools, including automated assistance, to draft and structure content efficiently. They are a drafting aid, not the final word: every published guide is reviewed against its sources, edited for accuracy and clarity, and checked for the specific conditions the advice assumes. We do not publish unreviewed generated text, and we do not mass-produce pages without added value.

If a page cannot be supported by a credible source or a clear method, we do not publish it.

Accuracy, timing and conditions

Growing advice depends on climate, variety, soil and timing. Where the answer varies, we say what the advice assumes — for example, an average UK last-frost date — instead of implying a single right answer. Figures are given as ranges with their conditions.

Updates and corrections

Each guide shows a publication date and, where it has been revised, an updated date. We review and refresh guides when guidance or sources change, and we revise any page that contains an error.

If you spot a mistake, a broken source or an unclear step, email [email protected] with the page title and a short description. When a correction changes the advice, we update the page and its date.

Independence and advertising

Seedledge is reader-supported through display advertising. Advertisements are clearly separated from editorial content and do not influence what we write or how we rank sources. We do not publish paid placements, sponsored posts or affiliate recommendations disguised as editorial.

Images and licensing

Photographs and illustrations are used under their stated licence (public domain, CC0, or Creative Commons with attribution). Attribution and licence details are listed on our image credits page. If you believe an image is credited incorrectly, tell us and we will correct or remove it.
